Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then located numerous other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say early analysis show the fluid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; investigators are not yet aware of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the case" and have requested to the community for details.
A high-ranking representative stated the vandalism left him speechless and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the murder of nine people by a shooter focusing on residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
