2K Brings Onboard Apex Legends Producer to Boost Troubled Action Game Project Ethos

2K Games has welcomed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the anticipated over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Transition Follows Mixed Reception

The new appointee steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's disappointing unveiling last autumn.

On Wednesday, the company's top executive a key figure updated staff about this decision through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had indicated the requirement for a clearer game identity.

Ismailer noted that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a refreshed approach, aiming to better meet community desires.

A Pattern of Strategic Hires

This announcement follows a similar move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the full text from Ismailer's announcement:

Dear Team—

I know you all just completed your meeting - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a update, I stated the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented developers we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to endure.”

Given your hard work and versatility, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was informative. It affirmed the promise of a action-packed game but indicated we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the necessity for a clearer identity.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the criticism to consideration and overhauled Project ETHOS with a renewed direction - one that’s positioned to achieve its ambition to our fans.

The belief in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To advance the remarkable development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome Ben Brinkman as the incoming Studio Head of 31st Union. After some time of talks, Ben comes aboard us on next week.

Ben’s leadership and expertise in the competitive gaming space is vast, having devoted the recent years producing and managing some of the most popular series in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.

Let’s together in greeting him in the coming days. We are all excited to keep seeing the progress of the game in the time to follow.

The President

Game Details and Concept

Project Ethos was unveiled in last year together with a early access event. Initially, 31st Union portrayed the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an exciting step forward on the category."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the official summary reads. "Face the competition with new abilities, risks, and obstacles that evolve every match. Will you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Alternatively aim high, gamble everything, and hope your squad can achieve the highest spot? The option is yours."

Project Ethos lacks an announced launch window or supported systems, but players can look forward to additional details as creation continues.
